PAUL HULSE PosPeds Century

Subway Lunch Options

The annual Paul Hulse Century is a one day scenic 104 mile trip through some of Southern California’s most spectacular orange grove countrysides! The scenery is quite beautiful and the smells from the orange groves will blow your mind! The ride has become one of the premier training ride events for southern California in preparation for ALC & usually a season favorite for most riders. The event is dedicated to Paul Hulse who played a primary role in the development and expansion of Positive Pedalers and their mission to eliminate the stigma of HIV/AIDS through our positive public example.

Level of Difficulty: 3. This is an inspiring ride for newbies and veterans alike. It makes a GREAT first century if you haven’t done one. The route involves no significant climbing, just gentle rolling hills. Please do not attempt this ride if you haven’t completed (and been comfortable with) a half-century. This is a supported event and there will be sweep vehicles available to assist as necessary. Veterans and support teams will be there to encourage riders to ride every mile possible (you can do it!!). If you’ve been wanting to tackle that elusive century, there’s no better ride to set your mind to it! By June you’ll be doing several of these in one week, so get on that century bandwagon early!

Weather: Can vary significantly. Please watch the forecasts and be prepared accordingly, especially if the forecast is for unusually cool or warm weather. Please arrive at the event well hydrated and well fed.

Rain policy: Heavy rains will cancel this ride so please come prepared if the rain is light/variable. If it does rain and you choose not to ride you will need to arrange your own transportation back to the start point – sweep vehicles will only be able to assist with emergencies.

Starting Point: 27095 MCBEAN PKWY, VALENCIA, CA, 91355-5145 (about 1.2 miles east of the I-5 freeway off the 6 Flags Magic Mountain Parkway exit at the intersection of McBean Parkway in the Von’s Parking Lot).

Cost per person: $25.00 (includes pit stop snacks, electrolytes, water & lunch). Unused funds left over from the event will be applied to the Positive Pedalers rider support program.

Ride Capacity: 200

Registration: All registration should be completed online through the Pay Pal link below prior to the event. This ride fills up very quickly so please register early!! Late registration on the day of the event should not be expected although we can address special requests on a case-by-case basis. Once registration is full we will notify you via email, the PosPed website or our Facebook Page.

Breakfast: This is a long, all-day ride. Please eat a substantial breakfast before arriving at the event. Minor refreshments will be available at the start and end of the ride.

What to bring: All gear typically required by an ALC training ride (shoes, helmet, gloves, tubes, 2 bottles with water/electrolytes, pump/CO2, etc.). Since this is a long ride, extra salt, carbs (goo) and chamois butter are highly recommended. Wear your Pos Peds jersey if you have one! Plenty of smiles and a great, can-do attitude are also welcome – both are free and easy to share with others! J

Parking: Von’s has graciously allowed us to use their parking lot. Please do not park anywhere else in the shopping center.

Registration / check-in: 6 am – 7 am. Please arrive early to check-in. Check in will be in front of Peet’s Coffee.

Welcome, stretching & safety speech: 7 am

Ride out: 7:30 am

Route: Long rolling hills along Highway 126.
Rest stop 1/3: Piru (snacks, fruit, electrolytes) available; sunscreen & maybe chamois butter – while supplies last,
Lunch: Marina Park, Ventura, CA along the waterfront
Rest stop 2/4: Ragatz Bicycle World, Santa Paula

Support: This ride is supported with SAG vehicles & TRLs We also have the wonderful folks at Ragatz Bike shop available at Rest Stop 2 & 4 to assist with any serious mechanical issues.

All riders are welcome to this inspirational ride! The Positive Pedalers look forward to having you join us for a great event. Please register today using the Pay Pal “BUY NOW” button above.

THE JONATHAN PON MEMORIAL 2-DAY RIDE

May 19-20, 2012

Online ride registration is coming soon!

This ride takes off from Mill Valley, across the Golden Gate from San Francisco to Duncan’s Mills at the western end of the Russian River, through the lush (after all the winter rains) northern California countryside, via Nicasio, Petaluma, Valley Ford, Freestone (sticky buns– pastries, that is!) and Occidental. We’ll camp overnight at Casini Ranch, on the banks of the river, where you’ll get a feel for what it be like camping out on the Ride in June.

A hot dinner will be served at The Ranch followed by entertainment. On Sunday morning a hot breakfast will be provided and we’ll head back home, first along the ocean and then to Point Reyes Station, where we’ll stop for lunch. Daily support while you ride will include SAG and sweep vehicles and mobile rest stops.

Space is limited to 175 registrations.

Cost per person will be $79. Refunds will only be offered if you cancel 10 days prior to the ride.

• Lunch and dinner served on Day 1, hot breakfast and lunch on Day 2, (vegetarian options offered) will be provided as part of the registration fee.

• Check in will begin at 6:00 AM, an hour prior to ride out. You will be given bike and helmet numbers and wristbands that must be worn at all times.

• Secured Bike parking will be available at the campsite.

• You are limited to one gear bag

• There will be 75 tents provided for riders (2 per tent). If you plan to use the ALC tent and don’t have a tentmate, we will assign you one.

• There will be a bike mechanic available on the ride (courtesy of Mike’s Bikes, Sausalito).

• We will transport your gear to the campsite and back. Please label your gear.

• Showers are available at the campsite, though the number is limited you might anticipate short lines.

• Entertainment will be offered at night.

• A small general store and laundry facilities are available at the campsite for incidentals or that favorite candy bar.

• Any proceeds not used in production of this ride will go into the PosPeds scholarship fund.

• Please feel free to have loved ones meet you at camp. We are limited in camp space so if you want them to stay over night they will need to share you tent.

• Rain policy: Heavy rains will cancel this ride, but we don’t anticipate this to be the case in May. If it does rain and you choose not to ride you will need to arrange your own transportation back to the start point (in Sausalito) where you will reclaim your gear. We have some places to sleep indoors in case it rains; however, if it’s raining so hard you don’t want to ride home you’ll have to provide your own way.

• Once registration is full we will notify you via email, the PosPed website, and our Facebook Page.

If you have any further questions, please email jonathanponride@pospeds.org.
