Positive Pedaler Day April 30, 2010

Through the tireless and determined efforts of Grady Shawn Allison and many other PosPeds across the country, Positive Pedaler Day proclamations were enacted across the country: in the cities of New York, Minneapolis, Austin, Texas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and West Hollywood, CA, and the States of New York, New Jersey, and the State of California!
It all started at 9:30 AM CST at the Board Council meeting, in Minneapolis City Hall. Joe Ede, representing Positive Pedalers of the Red Ribbon ride received proclamation from the entire after he spoke of the organization.
This was the start of many ceremonies across the country proclaiming April 30th, Positive Pedaler day in honor of their 15 years of eliminating stigma, raising awareness and putting a positive face to HIV, raising funds to support various AIDS organizations throughout the nation.
Shortly thereafter The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center hosted the New York City Positive Pedaler Day ceremony at 12:00 PM EST. Proclamations to honor Positive Pedalers and their participation in Braking the Cycle and various AIDS rides throughout the State of New York were presented by Eric Bottcher, HIV/AIDS and LGBT Liaison for Speaker Christine C Quinn’s office, by Matt Borden, Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Deborah Glick’s office. Additional New York proclamations were read from Mayor Bloomberg’s office; State Senator’s Tom Duane and Diane Savino’s office. A proclamation for the State of New Jersey was also read proclaiming April 30th Postive Pedalers Day.
“It’s and honor to fight this fight with you”, proclaimed the Interim Director of San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Barbara Kimport who open San Francisco city hall steps ceremony. A proclamation from Sen Mark Leno office, as well as Mayor Gaving Newsom was read. Kaya Dzembic, first year rider shared her story before City Supervisor Bevan Dufty closed the ceremonies by thanking Postive pedalers for their over 4 million dollars contribution to AIDS/LifeCycle.
The celebration did not stop there… Positive Pedaler Tim Bailey recieved a proclamation from the Austin, Texas City Council.
Positive Pedaler Board member Tom Keep was presented a proclamation from the City of West Hollywood. The City of Los Angeles has completed their proclamation for Positive Pedaler Day and it is shown here.
