The scenery is quite beautiful and the smells from the orange groves will blow your mind! The ride has become one of the premier training ride events for southern California in preparation for ALC & usually a season favorite for most riders. The event is dedicated to Paul Hulse who played a primary role in the development and expansion of Positive Pedalers and their mission to eliminate the stigma of HIV/AIDS through our positive public example.

This year we are opening up the design to everyone! Whether you are a Pos Ped or a Pos Supporter we want to see your design ideas. All of the designs will be voted on by the Pos Ped board, and the jersey that is picked will serve as the 2012 Pos Ped jersey, to be worn all around the country. All you have to do is come up with an awesome design and submit it to the board.

Submissions will be accepted until January 15th. Please submit all design ideas in a pdf format. Send submissions to Gordon.duvall@pospeds.org. The concept of a World AIDS Day originated at the 1988 World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention.

From its inception until 2004, UNAIDS spearheaded the World AIDS Day campaign, choosing annual themes in consultation with other global health organizations. In 2005 this responsibility was turned over to the World AIDS Campaign (WAC), who chose Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise as the main theme for WAD observances through 2010, with more specific sub-taglines chosen annually. This year’s sub-tagline is: “Act Aware.” This overarching theme is designed to encourage political leaders to keep their commitment to achieve universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support by the year 2010.

This year marks the 30th year of the pandemic. The Board of thePositive Pedalers hopes that its members and supporters take a moment this World AIDS Day to remember those who have been affected by this terrible disease and take the time to honor and celebrate the lives of those we have lost by participating in one of the WAD events in your area–including those special rides scheduled below.

By Anonymous on November 9, 2010 2:55 PM
from POZ Magazine

I am a 24-year-old, white, female graduate student living in New York City. I am HIV positive. I was diagnosed in June, just about five months ago, after going to the doctor for a routine check-up. Approximately three weeks before I was diagnosed, I broke up with my boyfriend of two years, who I loved desperately, and who broke my heart when he cheated on me, and then begged me to stay. I thought the heartache of tearing myself away from my first love was one of the hardest challenges life would bring…Boy, was I wrong.

Recently, I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to be an anonymous blogger at POZ.com, so that I can share my experience as a young, newly diagnosed woman. The staff at POZ (who promote disclosure of HIV status to fight against the stigma) are graciously allowing me to withhold my identity. I hope that readers will understand that my anonymity is not indicative of shame, but rather the desire to personally deal with my own diagnosis before I publicly disclose my status.

While I genuinely hope to help others get through the emotional roller-coaster that inevitably follows diagnosis, the reality is that I myself am still coping. I hope and sincerely believe that one day soon I will feel strong enough to disclose my identity, but for now (as my amazing friends and family have been incessantly reminding me), I need to do what will best allow me to heal.

So, for my first blog entry, I’ll start at the beginning of my story…

This is a milestone year: 30 years of AIDS. We hope for a large turnout for the World AIDS Day Rides; please come join us, wear red, as this year we can create a red ribbon as we circle through cities, towns and regions most affected by this past 30 years of the AIDS Pandemic. The final stop of the San Francisco ride is at the National AIDS Memorial Grove to recall those we lost, celebrate those still here and living with HIV/AIDS, and remember why each one of us rides to end AIDS.
