Dale Freeman (Emeritus Member)
"I tested positive in 1987. I took up cycling in 1993 shortly after my wife died of HIV-related causes. I rode my first AIDS Ride in 1998, and joined the Positive Pedalers Board the following year. Positive Pedalers, like the disease that brings us together, has gone through many changes over the years, but has always remained central to my personal struggle with HIV. I’ll soon be leaving the Board, but expect to remain involved with this very valuable organization." dale@pospeds.org

James Ferguson
"The series of events that have led me from having no knowledge of ALC or Pos Peds have been nothing less than amazing," says James Ferguson, a Laguna Beach resident who joined the Pos Peds Board in October 2007. "In less than one year I was introduced to the ride, rode in my first ride (ALC6), found a passion for both the bicycle and HIV/AIDS awareness and have recently become one of the new Pos Peds Board members. I feel honored to be a part of a group whose sole purpose is to make a positive impact on those around them. Who could be more fortunate than me?" james@pospeds.org

Jim Williams
Jim Williams, a resident of New York City who joined the Pos Peds Board in October 2007, was diagnosed April 21, 2006, a few months after signing up for AIDS LifeCycle 5. “In a split second my entire world changed,” Jim says. “I continued training for the ride and almost immediately joined the Pos Peds because I knew I needed to identify with a group for solidarity, comfort and strength - and because I was scared. I rode every mile on that first ride and every AIDS ride since with a bright orange flag flying from the back of my bike – proclaiming I am HIV positive."
As a “newbie,” Jim says he knows the stigma that is attached to becoming infected today all too well. “Even though New York City continues to be one of the epicenters of the disease, there are some who feel that it is indefensible to get infected at a time when we know so much about how to prevent the spread of the virus. But we do not make our decisions in a safe sex campaign vacuum and people continue to get infected – I am proof of that. For me, there is power in publicly acknowledging that I am positive and that power has helped me find the strength and courage I need to fight and live with this disease.” jim@pospeds.org

Eric Krigger
Eric joined the Pos Peds Board in October 2007. "This is three firsts for me," Eric says. "October 2006 was the first time on a bike for me since I was 14 or so; AIDS/LifeCycle 6 was my first ALC; and it's the first time on the Board. I am feeling pretty good about being able to do all three after falling for the stigma myself, off and on, for too many years. I really love riding! And I love being part of the positive power and energy of Pos Peds, our supporters and ALC!"
Eric tested HIV-positive in 1985. "Now, at 52, I am not ready to be written off and plan to keep as active as I can and do ALC every year, as a Rider or a Roadie. The strength and emotion of this is unimaginable!" eric@pospeds.org

Gabriel Rocha
Born and raised in Mexico City and a resident of San Francisco since 2000, Gabriel became a Pos Peds member while participating in ALC 3 and became a Pos Peds Board member in 2006. Gabriel has also participated on ALC 4, 5 and 6.
"The first time I heard about the AIDS ride was while I was in the hospital in the year 2000. My dear friend Don did the ride that year. He called me at the end of every day during the ride. His phone calls filled me with hope and strength. He made me feel like he was doing the ride just for me.
Now, I want to ride so that I can help those people who need help, like I did. Doing the AIDS/LifeCycle is my way of giving a little bit back for all that I got (mi granito de arena). I am so proud to be part of Positive Pedalers, to be a member among so many inspiring and outstanding people is a real honor." gabriel@pospeds.org
