Information for all HIV Positive Participants on ALC 6

Positive Pedalers wants HIV-positive riders and roadies to be prepared to make the most of their ALC experience. This page will be updated frequently as ALC 6 draws near.

ON ORIENTATION DAY - SATURDAY, JUNE 2:

REMINDER: the Positive Pedalers always lead ride out on Day One. So before you enter the hall, you must place your bicycle in Bike Parking. Please identify yourself as a Positive Pedaler to the Bike Parking Volunteer when you bring your bike to Bike Parking. The volunteer will direct you to the reserved Positive Pedaler parking area. Friends and family are welcome to join us during the Ride Out. We do, however, request that during Registration you notify either of the Board Co-Chairs (John or Peter) the number of cyclist joining you.

Look for the Positive Pedaler table as you enter the hall.

Our Positive Pedaler jerseys will be available at our table and will cost $40, plus tax. Jerseys reserved in advance will be available there. Additional jerseys will be available only while supplies last. If possible, the jerseys will be washed in advance of Orientation Day for the sake of comfort.

This year we have re-designed the Positive Pedaler T-shirt. One shirt each will be available at no cost to Positive Pedalers Riders and Roadies. Additional shirts may be purchased for $10 each while supplies last. Please remember to bring this shirt with you on the ride and wear it on the evening of Day 5 for the group picture.

We have also designed a Positive Pedaler supporter T-shirt, which we will be selling to family, friends and participants who want to support us. They will sell for $20 each.

Our symbolic and traditional bike flag will also be available at our table at no cost. We encourage each cyclist to commit to riding with the flag, however, we understand not everyone feels comfortable riding with one; we welcome you to participate at whatever level you feel comfortable.

In the past, 50 tents have been reserved by ALC for Camp Pos Peds. On Orientation Day, go to the Tent Assignment area with your tent mate and identify yourself as a Positive Pedaler to the volunteer -- friends and partners are welcomed and encouraged here. Regardless of HIV status, you will be placed in the reserved area for the Positive Pedalers. Complete your tent assignments before ALC begins to release our reserved tent assignments (at 1 p.m., in the past). If you are planning on coming to Orientation Day after 1 p.m., please contact us in advance.

OPENING CEREMONIES and RIDE OUT:

A contingent of Positive Pedalers and Roadies will participate in the Opening Ceremonies. We ask all Positive Pedalers and Roadies to gather near the stage so we can be a strong and visible presence. As soon as Opening Ceremonies end, please head to your bikes rapidly as Ride Out will begin quickly.

DAY 3: POSITIVE PEDALER RECOGNITION AT EVENING STAGE

Please be advised that at the evening announcements the Positive Pedalers will be recognized and there will be one or two Positive Pedalers speakers that evening.

DAY 5: POSITIVE PEDALER PHOTOGRAPH:

On Day 5 of the Ride we will have our annual Positive Pedaler and Roadie group photograph taken at approximately 6 p.m.; please be sure to bring your new Pos Peds shirt and wear it that evening for the photo. We will meet at the main stage area on right. This photo will be a public document, displayed on our website.

DAY 7: HOLDING AREA:

On Day 7 of the Ride the Positive Pedalers will once again lead all cyclists from the holding area to Closing Ceremonies. Upon arrival at the holding Area on Day 7 please immediately identify yourself as a Positive Pedaler to the Holding Area Volunteer. They will direct you to a reserved Positive Pedaler Parking Area. It is important that both you and whomever you are riding in with park in the reserved area as this will be the only opportunity to line up properly. Friends and family that you are riding with are allowed to park in this area and ride in with you.

CLOSING CEREMONIES:

A contingent of Positive Pedalers and Roadies will participate in the Closing Ceremonies. Additional information on Closing Ceremonies will be discussed on Night 5 after the photograph.

SEE YOU ORIENTATION DAY AND ON THE ROAD!!!
