The 2017 Jonathan Pon Memorial Ride – May 20th & 21st

The Ride: The Jonathan Pon Memorial 2-Day Ride will give you the experience of riding two days back to back and includes a night sleeping in camp with your fellow cyclists. The route covers almost 150 miles through scenic Marin and Sonoma counties, with overnight camping on the Russian River.
To quote the March 2002 edition of OutReach, “The San Francisco AIDS Foundation lost one of its staunchest advocates, most tireless fundraisers, and greatest friends on December 29, 2001 with the passing of Jonathan Pon.”
“Jonathan’s remarkable courage and conviction inspired everyone around him. He liked to say that he was truly living with HIV, not just alive with it. He was strong-willed and sometimes quick to anger, but he was equally quick to share his killer grin and sharp, dry wit. He had a drive for perfection that only he could get away with, and was generous to a fault. Those who incurred his wrath soon learned to regret it; those who became his friend were truly blessed. His passion was infectious, and it was impossible to spend any time around him without catching it.”

All cyclists are responsible for transporting their gear and bicycle to the ride start on Saturday morning. Registration will open at 5:30am on Saturday May 20th. We urge you to consider car-pooling or having a friend drop you and your gear off at the ride start and to pick you up when you finish on Sunday afternoon.
Although we can make no guarantees beyond offering vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal options, there may be certain things the caterers that we’ve chosen for this ride can do to accommodate some special dietary needs. Please let us know during the registration process if you have any specific dietary restrictions.
Tents will be available for rent during the event. Each tent will be $15 with double occupancy required ($7.50 per person). Tents are limited and you will be required to have a tent-mate if you will be renting one. If you need help finding a tent-mate, we strongly encourage you to post to the Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Jonathanponride/.
Day One: –We start our journey in Sausalito and wind our way through Marin over familiar roads through Larkspur, Fairfax, Lagunitas, and Pt. Reyes, all before we break for lunch in the town of Tomales. From lunch we travel through Valley Ford and up and into Occidental before we finish at Casini Ranch on the banks of the Russian River.
Day Two: – From Duncan Mills we take Highway 116 West towards the Coast and then down Highway 1 through Bodega Bay. Our first stop of the morning is in Bodega Bay and from there we head into Valley Ford for our second stop. We then head to Petaluma for lunch. From Petaluma we head to Novato and then on to San Rafael before returning to Sausalito.
Your registration fee of $115.00 covers:
- Gear transport to and from Casini Ranch – gear is limited to one overnight bag with sleeping bag and sleeping pad;
- Meals – lunch and dinner Day 1, breakfast and lunch Day 2;
- Snacks and Bottled Water – at all supported rest stops;
- SAG/Sweep support along the entire route;
- Camping fees at Casini Ranch;
- Transportation to and from start/finish in Sausalito
- Bike and helmet
- Personal camping gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent). Tents will be available for an add-on fee during the registration/payment process ($15 with double occupancy required: $7.50 per person).
If a participant is unable to complete any portion or the entire ride as planned (due to an illness, injury or other unforeseen circumstance), the participant is responsible for their own transportation from the point in the ride where it is determined they can no longer participate.
The most up-to-date information about this year’s Jonathan Pon Memorial Ride will be announced to our Jonathan Pon Facebook group. Once registered, you will be sent information about being added to this group if you are not a current member of the group. In addition, all registered participants will be provided with all the detailed information they need to make this a memorable weekend
Registrations are non-transferable. But if you need to cancel your registration, full refunds are available until 5pm PT on Friday May 12, 2017. Your cancel request must be received in writing by e-mail to email@example.com. There will be a waiting list for riders, so canceling as soon as you know you cannot ride, will give others a chance to register.
Please allow two weeks for processing of refund. After 5pm PT on Friday May 12, 2017, no refunds will be processed.
