Paul Hulse Century Ride

15th Annual PAUL HULSE PosPeds Century

April 7, 2018

Check back here for news of the 2019 event!

Orange groves, gently rolling hills, miles and miles of beautiful lush countryside, tasty treats at 4 pit stops, lunch stop by the ocean, full sweep support, ride leaders AND the friendliest group of crew and riders – the Paul Hulse/PosPed Century has it all, and this year we will be riding on Saturday April 7, 2018. Dedicated to Paul Hulse, one of the original founding members of the Positive Pedalers, this is one of the most beautiful century rides of the training season, and the first big endurance test for many AIDS/Lifecycle riders. With only rolling hills and no major climbs, it is a great first century for new riders who have already built up their mileage and want to get a century under their belt before ALC, and a fun and pretty route even for veterans. Join the Positive Pedalers for this inspiring ride and includes full support (sweep vehicles, ride leaders, fully-stocked pit stops) as well as lunch. The ride starts from the Promenade at Town Center in Santa Clarita in the early morning on Saturday, April 7, 2018, passing through miles of orange groves and green fields (with a pit stop at the adorable small train station in Piru) on our way to the lunch stop at Marina Park in Ventura, right next to the ocean, and looping back through Santa Paula and Piru all the way to Santa Clarita.

Space is limited to a maximum of 250 riders, so register today to ensure your spot and get the early registration price of just $40! Everyone is welcome, and you do not need to be an ALC participant to join us for this ride (although ALC safety rules will apply). Please wear your PosPeds or supporter jersey if you have one – one goal of this ride is showing strength in numbers, with lots of visibility!

All riders are welcome to this inspirational ride and we look forward to having you join us!

Level of Difficulty:  Climbing:  2, Distance:  4  This is an inspiring ride for newbies and veterans alike. It makes a GREAT first century if you haven’t done one. The route involves no significant climbing, just gentle rolling hills. Please do not attempt this ride if you haven’t completed (and been comfortable with) a half-century. This is a supported event and there will be sweep vehicles available to assist as necessary. Veterans and support teams will be there to encourage riders to ride every mile possible. If you’ve wanted to tackle that elusive century, there’s no better ride to set your mind to it! By June you’ll be doing several of these in one week, so climb on that century bandwagon today!

Weather: Can vary significantly. Please watch the forecasts and be prepared accordingly, especially if the forecast is for unusually cool or warm weather. Please arrive at the event well hydrated and well fed.

Rain policy: Heavy rains will cancel this ride so please come prepared if the rain is light/variable. If it does rain and you choose not to ride you will need to arrange your own transportation back to the start point – sweep vehicles will only be able to assist with emergencies.

Breakfast: This is a long, all-day ride. Please eat a substantial breakfast before arriving at the event. Minor refreshments will be available at the start and end of the ride.

What to bring: All gear typically required by an ALC training ride (shoes, helmet, gloves, tubes, 2 bottles with water/electrolytes, pump/CO2, etc.). Since this is a long ride, extra salt, carbs (goo) and chamois butter are highly recommended. Please wear your Pos Peds jersey if you have one – one huge goal of this ride is showing strength in numbers with lots of visibility! Plenty of smiles and a great, can-do attitude are also welcome – both free and easy to share with others!
